Small Booth Items: A Stamped Tile, Clock Parts As Wall Decor, and More Crafty Things Plus A New Farm Table In Our Booth

Book page wreath and clock parts as wall decor

Here are some small booth items we added to our booth at Angel’s Antique Mall in Opelika last week plus a new farm table. Spring always puts me in a crafty mood, and I was able to take a few things I either made or put together. (The pictures are less than stellar. There is something about the lighting in the malls that I can’t get to agree with either my phone or the small camera I pack.) But first, how about using clock parts as wall decor?

You can enlarge the picture for a closer look here. I had a couple of old mantle clocks. One was in pieces. Not worth selling as it was, so I took it apart. I thought they’d look pretty cool as wall decor, but I’m betting whoever buys them will be a “clock man.”

The book page wreath. You’ve probably seen the big, fluffy, wreaths made with pages rolled into cones. A quick search on Pinterest pulls up lots of them. I tried to do one of those. But could never get past the first cone. My fingers were not dexterous enough to make a decent cone, so I searched for an alternative. Found a tutorial for this one on The Graphics Fairy by Gina of The Shabby Creek Cottage. It looked like something I could do, so I did. I made the nest and everything! Felt quite accomplished, I did. I’ll be flattered and encouraged if someone buys it. If not, I might crawl back under my rock. (Update: It did sell as did all the clock parts.)

Another quick, crafty thing I’ve been wanting to do for about a year now, was to stamp this Eiffel Tower onto this broken piece of tile.

What took me so long? I’m such a procrastinator. (Sold)

The next project was a bit more work. I’ve  had some drawers like this for several years, hanging around, falling apart, awaiting inspiration and a spurt of “let’s do it.” That came last week and resulted in this:

Black Board Drawer

The drawer had to be glued back together and had warped some. And I did it all by myself. Felt quite accomplished yet again! 🙂 (Sold)

These stacks of vintage recipe cards I’d seen in an old Somerset magazine, don’t remember which one now. I chose to bundle them in pale pink seam binding, 10 cards in each stack.

Vintage Hand Written Recipe Cards

I think I priced them a tad too high. Funny how sometimes you think someone would pay so much for something and the next day you wonder what in the world you were thinking? So, next time I’m there I’ll lower the price. I think I put $4.99 for the handwritten ones. Sound too much for 10 cards? That’s 50¢ each. I dunno.

Next up, something else that’s sat on the back burner for several years. This little, Florentine box. It had no knobs when I got it and for some reason, I never could decide what or how to add any. Finally, I took a deep breath and did it. Glued some old “ear bobs” on it for handles.

And last, but certainly not least, the latest farm table. The lighting gives the legs a pinkish tone. They’re not. If I remember right, they’re painted in General Finishes Linen and finished with a dark wax. The top is General Finishes Espresso.

Remember we moved our booth. It is now D-26. Seems easier to get to and kinda more with the “cool” kids. 😉

Now, this week? Bleah. I’m rather uninspired. Well, maybe that’s not quite true. I don’t feel like being inspired, I guess. I came down with a nasty cold Saturday. Fever, can’t breathe, the whole nine yards. Fever’s gone and I should be up and at ’em, but all I want to do is sit on the sofa and be on the internet. I’m even talking on my personal Facebook page! Haven’t had time to do that in a long time. But I really need to work. Our bodies have a way of saying enough is enough, don’t they? There comes a point, though, that my mind will simply have to tell my body to shut up and get over it. I’ve got to get back to work.

Valentine’s Day Booth Ideas

I can be such a booth slacker at times, lots of times, but I did get to the booth at the Pickle Patch in Sylacauga, Alabama, and do some rearranging, pulling out and putting in with Valentine’s Day theme in mind. It still looks sparse. But it is what it is at the moment.

Valentine's Day booth theme

The pink and purple wall. The black paper is simply black wrapping paper. I had every intention of drawing on it with chalk, hearts with initials and arrows through them, squiggles, that kind of thing, but liked the plain gold frames and left it like that. I’m also letting go of my personal collection of three, crochet heart pin cushions. Don’t know why I never bought more than three. The little stand needs new glass cut for it. It doesn’t fit into the top. No matter which way I try. I swear it fit before it got to the booth! It’s only $20.00.

The red and white wall. Everyone wants to buy the screen. That is until I tell them to look at the bottom. It’s been wet and in bad shape. I only use it for display. Some day, maybe, I’ll fix it. See that little, red tray at the bottom?

It was a tool box insert that happened to have holes on each end. Perfect for a crystal knob!

There is more, of course, but those are my Valentine colored areas.

Today, is storage unit clean-out day. Wait. Did I just say clean-out? Um… hmmmm…. uh… Probably not, but I’ve GOT to do some a lot of work over there. We rent three of the largest sizes. Need to get them down to one – none would be best – but first, just down to two would be wonderful. So much booth and Etsy stuff over there as well as household overflow, the grown kids’ things and things put back for the next yard sale. There is furniture waiting to be repaired and painted. Guess I need to get off my be-hind, huh?

See ya!

Fresh Finds and Fall Booth Rearranging

Last weekend took me to a small estate sale and a few yard sales. I was first – #1 – numero uno – at the estate sale. For about 5 minutes. It was good while it lasted.

I knew I was going to get several of these things out and into booths quickly and had to do hurry up pictures. So…. please don’t judge me by these horrendous pics! Late afternoon light streaming in through the sheers. Horrible shadows. Ugh.

Yard Sale Junk

All but the Pyrex came from the estate sale. A “glitter plastic” ice bucket, cute change purse, Italian ashtray, blue, cardboard suitcase and an Anchor Hocking, Prescut dish I’ve never seen still with the label attached. The Pyrex was just down the road at a yard sale. Not priced. I don’t usually bother to ask when things aren’t priced. It’s just too awkward when it’s more than I want to pay. I’m kinda shy like that. But this time I did ask and the price was just fine.

The Pyrex and the ashtray will go on Etsy. The ice bucket and suitcase are in my booth at Angel’s. Haven’t decided on the other things yet.

Yard Sale Finds

The basket had leather (or leather like) strap hinges and is already sold. Sold the second day it was at Angel’s. Got the lamp because it was cheap. I really should leave lamps alone. The red bud vase looked like a good Christmas thing to me. The towel rack I had to take down from under the sink at the estate sale. It has really good, green paint and the paint on the fingers has worn away from wet rags hanging on them through the years. I do believe that was my favorite find of the weekend. It will probably be going on Etsy.

Chest of Drawers

This chest was at the estate sale, also. I don’t believe in painting something when the finish looks good. Y’all know our kids or grandkids are going to moan and groan that we painted everything in sight, don’t you? The chest is in my booth at the Pickle Patch in Sylacauga.

I also bought a mid mod desk that went straight to the storage unit. I plan to keep it and use it as a sewing table.

I did some fall rearranging at the Pickle Patch booth yesterday. Here are a couple of pictures:

Gah! My eyes! The picture is so blurry!

So there you have it. God awful pictures and all.

The move out of the shop is done

No pictures today. Haven’t had time to take any! In case anyone has been following the few posts I’ve written recently I thought I’d give a quick update. (Ha! Quick? Me?)  The move out of the old shop is finished. We locked the doors for the last time at 5 minutes til midnight July 2. Two days after the goal.

There are approximately 30 storage tubs of booth worthy items. A 10×30 foot storage unit is packed with those, seasonal booth stuff and furniture waiting to be readied for the booths. I don’t have to shop for inventory for a long time. We… uh, hubby, Got bless him… hauled countless truckloads to the house for a yard sale. The amount of stuff grew and grew and grew. I had no idea. Where did it all come from? I pick and choose stuff to buy. How did I end up with so much crap?

A lot of things had been given to us and there were things from the remains of a few estates, but still. I was mortified at the amount of just plain ol’ junk. The past week was spent preparing for the Big A** Yard Sale. We started putting it out Thursday around noon, stopped about 9:00 that night, and still had stuff to put out Friday morning and again on Saturday. And I forgot the things I’d brought home from the booths that had worn out their welcome!

To give you an idea of how much stuff we had, there was maybe $100-150 of $20 items. The rest was under $5-10, with the majority, probably 80-90%, being 25¢. We pulled out just over $600 and still hauled 4 truck loads to the GW!!! Crazy, right?!

Let this be a lesson to you if you are or want to be a vintage/antique/junk dealer. Take care of things as you buy them. Don’t let them sit more than a week before they go to the place where they’ll be offered for sale. Get ’em to that booth or on Etsy or eBay or wherever they’re going. They will breed and have babies.

And what do you think we did yesterday afternoon? Brought home the last of the stuff my late friend Lena’s family so kindly gave me. A truck and a 12′ trailer load. BUT… nothing came home with us that doesn’t have a place to go quickly! I went out to take pictures, but hubby had already unloaded most of it. He’s not as slow as I am.

On another note, I’ve decided to take a break from selling on Etsy. I’m too slow to list, which is the reason for all the storage tubs of booth stuff. I wanted it in my Etsy shop and at the same time have it housed at my booth in the local mall. The result was that I didn’t have enough in any of the booths and great stuff in storage. So at least until I get this all under control, no Etsy for me. (I stopped selling on eBay a couple of years ago.) Besides I had a harrowing experience during the move where I lost an item and the buyer was way less than pleased. If you go to my Etsy account and read the two negatives he left, you’ll get an inkling of the turmoil I was going through. But don’t even go look unless you’ve got about 10 minutes and the patience to read them. Sigh. It’s all blown over now, but my feelings are still deeply hurt.

That pretty much does it for the update. Now to recover from the move and the yard sale and get this house cleaned up! Find a new normal routine with blogging and readying things for the booths and homemaking. Sounds like much more fun that I was having. 🙂
