How to remove promoted and picked for you pins on Pinterest

How to remove "Picked For You" and "Promoted" pins from your Pinterest feed and get it back to the people, boards and topics you want to follow.

This is a public service announcement:

How to remove "Picked For You" and "Promoted" pins from your Pinterest feed and get it back to the people, boards and topics you want to follow.

You might have noticed your Pinterest feed is different these days. No longer are you seeing pins from all the people you follow. Instead, you see “Picked For You” pins and “Sponsored” or “Promoted” pins. Sponsored/promoted pins are pins people pay to have show up in our feeds. Picked For You are pins Pinterest thinks we would like to see. Now, I’ll admit, sometimes Pinterest gets it right on the pins they think I’d like, but oftentimes, they don’t. And the sponsored pins? Rarely.

(Update: Pinterest now has a setting where you can choose to not see “picked for you” pins. Simply go to your profile, choose “settings” and scroll down until you see the opt out.)

I’m sorry. I do understand people paying to promote their product. I get it. We all have to make a living somehow. I probably wouldn’t mind as much if my feed was 95-99% people I follow, but it’s not. It’s the double whammy of what Pinterest thinks I’d like and the promoted pins that’s so annoying.

We follow people and boards because we like what they pin. Why else would we follow them? Okay, so some people just want you to follow them back, but we’ll just shove those people to the side right now. Let’s talk about the feed we want to see.

Did you know there’s a way to get the old feed back? The one that is full of pins from the people, boards and subjects you follow. Hallelujah! And it’s as simple as a browser extension/add-on.

It’s called pinBlock and you can find it here: Stop Promoted Pins

(Update: This extension is currently, August 26, 2016, not working. Both picked for you and promoted pins are in our feeds in spite of the extension. But don’t dismiss it yet. I’m sure they’ll get things fixed.)

It’s available for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers and there’s an Android and IOS app. The browser extensions are free, but the mobile apps cost a dollar.

It will change your pinning world! It makes it fun again. I decided to use pinBlock on my “super computer” (laptop) and nothing on my tablet. This way, I get to see my normal feed as well as what Pinterest thinks I’d like to see. It’s really interesting to see the difference.

I am not affiliated with pinBlock in any way. Just a fan.

Click here to follow my Pinterest account and, if you install the pinBlock extension you’ll see all the awesome, home decor, crafts, DIY’s and internet entrepreneur pins I find from some of the best blogs and information out there!

The 4th of July Decorations Featuring a Patriotic Collection

Silk, 48 star, American flag

4th of July mantle decoration

Procrastination. I has it. Bad. I knew I wanted to do some 4th of July decorations on my mantle, and planned to do it at least a couple of weeks before the holiday. Ohhhh, and I’d get some fab pictures, pin them on Pinterest and everyone would oooh and ahhhh and I’d have my 15 minutes of fame. Bahahahahaha…. snort, giggle.

So. Two days, not weeks, before the 4th, I pulled out the patriotic collectibles box and got to work. We were also expecting company on the 3rd, so that was incentive, even though not one of them cared – or even noticed – nor should they have. But I cared.

It’s been so long since I’ve opened said box, that I forgot I had some of these things! Where did that silk, 48 star flag come from? How cool is that?

The “Remember Me” thing is a….. I don’t know what it is…. It’s silk and folds over like a book. You’d think it should be a hanky pouch, but there are no openings for a hanky. The inside has a flag and a Doughboy. Whatever it is, I love it.

The plate above has presidents on it up to Teddy Roosevelt. The flag thing at the base of the new, Dollar Tree flags is a pin cushion. The spool, or bobbin, of red thread gets used for Christmas and Valentine’s Day as well.

Close by, on a table near the fireplace, is this real photo postcard of a 48 star flag.

I didn’t show a close up of the center because the close ups had the top of my head reflecting in the mirror. It isn’t all that interesting anyway. My head nor the stuff in the center of the display. Maybe if I hadn’t procrastinated so long, I could have taken the time to get some better pictures and had my 15 minutes of fame. Hehe. Ah, but that’s Last Minute Me. At least I did something, though!

Booth Display for June

Booth display for June

We took a few pieces of furniture to the booth last week. Ricky made another table and benches, he refinished an old desk we had picked up and we added a jewelry cabinet all of which necessitated a big rearrange. This is the latest, June booth display.

Hand built farm table and MCM coffeetable

Okay. So displaying a mid century modern coffee table on top of a farm table isn’t the best display, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do when space is limited.

As a reminder, this is booth D-26 at Angel’s Antique Mall in Opelika, Alabama. We will be expanding in August.

What’s Under the Quilt and the Latest Booth Displays

Memorial day weekend, we were riding down the road, headed to the booth, with, appropriately, this patriotic quilt covering something. What do you suppose it was?

Patriotic quilt

It was Ricky’s latest creation! A million lb. sideboard that he and I wrestled up onto the trailer. (We called our son-in-law to help unload it.)

It sold in under two weeks. We left for vacation right after taking this to the booth, so I’m quite late with this blog post.

What other booth changes were there? Here are the latest booth displays.

Mud room bench in the latest booth display

The price of this mud room bench has been reduced. It’s a Pottery Barn knock off and a fraction of the cost. Wonder if theirs sold well for them? The bar stools you get a glimpse of behind sold the next day.

Oak coffee table and end table

The newer coffee table and end table (both now sold) were Ricky’s purchases. We were having a hard time fitting everything in, so started stacking. Why does the end table look like it’s leaning in the picture??? The bar stools on the right were my purchase. They were too good of a deal to pass up.

Arranging floral items

Just an arrangement of some sweet, floral items.

They were turning the lights out on us, and the pictures, which are usually bad in that lighting anyway, seem worse. And I  didn’t get to take a picture of the whole booth.
