A Tiny Bit Of Fall Decorating – Fall Vignettes

So. Yeah. I was ready to do some fall decorating. Right. I pulled out my boxes and realized most everything was either Halloween or Thanksgiving themed. Not much was generic fall. So, I have nothing noteworthy. But I’ll show you what I did do.

Sofa in the hall?

Before I get into full on fall decorating, I wanted to share my hallway that I’ve recently redecorated. But first, a little backstory.

My dad moved into a much smaller house a couple of years ago and got a new sofa this summer. The sofa he was using was a very nice, rarely used one from my parents’ formal living room, and it just didn’t fit the casual, open floor plan of his new home.

Well, he didn’t think he needed two couches and we, Erin and I, didn’t want to let this one get away. But, what to do? She had no room for it and I already had three couches! Where would I put #4??? Collecting Over Time – The Advantages Of Getting Older

Growing older has it’s decorating advantages. You know how designers say a room/home should look like the possessions were collected over time? Well, years of shopping just naturally make that happen. However it can seem impossible when you’re young and first starting out. But it’s not! The best way to achieve that look is to buy vintage. And if you have the time, search out every yard and estate sale, junk shop, antique shop, thrift store and auction you possibly can. Every weekend. We recently cleaned up the back dumping ground yard and I did some patio decorating with some of the pieces I found hiding out back there. There was junk Ricky was keeping “just in case” and some outdoor things from my dad’s house that came over here when he moved. It was a mess. Not quite Sanford and Son, but a junky, piled up mess all the same. One of the things I forgot was out there was a step stool from my parents’. Ricky’s take — Why do you keep so many stools? Can’t we sell some? Um… no. I seem to share my mother’s love of a cool, step stool. Plus they, my parents, like me, were short. We neeeeed stools.
