How has our crafting changed in the past 35 years? Have the creations stood the test of time? Would they show up on Pinterest today? Well, let’s see.
I ran across a November 1978 Decorating and Crafts magazine that was published by Southern Living. I subscribed for years, but apparently sold my collection at a long ago yard sale. A few did survive, though. Here’s what was in this one:
Punchwork ornaments. Just think. Those kids are approaching 40 now!
This was a mouse in a sardine can. I always thought that was cute, but wasn’t willing to buy a can of sardines to make it. I still think it’s kinda cute.
Gold crocheted collar and cuffs. Don’t you think she looks a lot like Kate Jackson? And dig that prairie dress!
Stocking made with ties? I can see someone doing an updated version of that today.
The smocked stocking below? Sure. Maybe without the lace, though? The curled toe stocking? Ummm…. But….. Wait for it…. Get a load of the KISS stocking on the bottom! OMG! That’s 1978 alright. Gene Simmons style. LOL
Calico cone Santa anyone?
These were my favorites then and I still like ’em pretty well.
Hope you enjoyed the trip down Memory Lane. I know for some of you it’s seeing what your mom was making when you were a baby or little kid.
