The porch demolition has begun!

Have I mentioned that we’re taking in our back porch for me a craft room? I’ve always wanted a room to work in, but never had one. We had this back porch next to the patio that we never used. Once upon a time it was actually kinda cute, but when we did some remodeling on our house a few years ago, some things got stored out there and we just never bothered to clean it up. If we can live without using or missing the back porch for a few years, why not make it into something useful? Here’s what it looks like now. This picture is after I’ve got all the flowerpots off the shelf thingy and after the leaves have been swept out and some other junk drug out. And there’s still crap under there.

(Gah! What a horrible picture! The color and lighting’s all wrong!)

It has green/gray marble tiles on the floor, half a century old. The windows will stay simply because we don’t want to go to that much trouble. The columns will come down. There will be two big windows and another glass door. The area is probably 15′ or so long. The only bad thing about it is that it’s only going to be 6′ wide. Quite the challenge there. I’ll be very limited as to what can go on the walls. At the moment I have nothing. Ricky made a good looking bookshelf for me, but it still needs painting.

It was also a challenge picking out a color for the walls. I went with a white because the space is so small and I didn’t want to feel closed in. We’ll see how it turns out.

I’m really excited about getting my very own room, but today I’ve been excited about finding some cool things I forgot I had! And see that shutter? How neat is that? No, I didn’t forget I had it. Just couldn’t get to it. I’m hoping to bring it into the house somewhere, but not sure where it could go. It came from my in-laws’ place. I don’t know that it was ever on their house though. I never saw any shutters like that and it was the only one. I found it out in the storage shed a long time ago and brought it home.
