Oh, so pretty! The color and style of this jewelry box fooled me. I thought it would be Italian Florentine, but it was made in Japan! Before getting into all the details, I must say that the music box seems to have been wound too tightly. It no longer plays music, nor can the knob be turned toward righty tighty.
Music box aside, let’s talk about its beauty. It is antiqued gold painted wood with antiqued white carving on the front. The top is a padded satin copy of an old world scene – “A Halt During the Chase” by Antoine Watteau. Surrounding the top edge is a lacy trim that appears to be real decoupaged lace. There are a few minor flaws that add to the antique look. Please see the close-up photos.
It is 8-1/2″ wide, 6″ front to back and 4-1/2″ tall.
As a reminder, the music box is not currently working.
