Amazing, vintage, 16″, hand-carved wood alligator. The detail on this alligator are… well… amazing. The scales, the ridges on his back, the teeth, the legs… I believe it’s cedar wood and the carver added a darker, stained “ribbon” spiraling around the body. It was finished with a gloss shellac or varnish. There are spots that are unvarnished, including his left front foot. I don’t believe there is any aftermarket damage, but it’s so intricate, that can be hard to determine. Please look at the photos carefully.
