Beautiful, earthy, utilitarian, brown spongeware kitchen bowl. I believe it to be handmade and antique. It is about 8-3/4″ in diameter and not perfectly round, nor is it perfectly the same height all around. It stands 2-1/2″ tall. I does appear to be brown pigment over yellowware and has a high gloss glaze. The bottom is finished the same as the rest of the bowl. There is a bit of wear on the edges of the bottom where it was slid around on a counter for years. There are a couple of small, very old chips. There is also a crack in the clay that is glazed over, so this happened during the creation of the bowl. All these are pictured. There are scratches and crazing in the bottom inside of the bowl that I can see with the magnifying glass. If your eyes are younger, you might not need the magnification.
