Dry Zinnias In the Microwave

All summer I said I needed to dry some of the gorgeous Zinnias by our driveway. But I never did. Now, as the last ones are blooming, I’m desperately clipping and drying. Those pictured are already dried. Pretty, aren’t they? I planned to add stems to them and still might do a few, but I sure do like them in that silver bowl.

The process? It’s slow, but not as slow as it was pre microwave ovens. Cut the stems in the morning about an inch beyond the bloom and place them in a deep glass bowl that’s filled with silica. Carefully cover the blooms completely. I cover the bowl, but I don’t know if that’s necessary. Microwave on high for about 5 minutes. Let cool. Gently remove, blow, spin and brush off the clinging silica then repeat with the next few blooms.

  1. They look so pretty in that silver bowl. The colors are just gorgeous and got so deep looking. Thanks for the tip.
